as you can see there are ribbons and trophies looking in to someones room most likely the kids room i believe he went in the military and he died in combat and when he shows up as a ghost to tell his father that he is thankful and his dad has a ring and no wife so i think she died earlier on and now its just the father left with just his sons memories.
