Lesson Plan # 2  Focusing on Interpretation   Original Monologues

Cape Henlopen High School  Lewes, DE

My garden. My escape. My purple world.  This is my place. The only place where I can be me. I walk through the rows of bushes, each blooming with a different type of flower. Roses, lilacs, lilies, daisies and orchids…and the mint bush next to me. Each is beautiful in its own way. Unlike me, plain and not beautiful, nothing like the flowers. That’s why I draw them, to bring their beauty within me.  I dream of having a room, a room painted with flowers…all different kinds. Flowers everywhere…on the carpet, the roof, the fireplace, the walls…everything covered with beautiful flowers. They can make up for what I do not have-beauty, passion, life. I have none of those things, I am just a girl surrounded by beauty, craving it, wanting it…but it’s all too far from my reach. And so for now, I am the purple lady in my purple world.
